  • Partager cette page par email

EDF is present in the nuclear and gas power generation markets in the United States and South America. Its state-of-the-art nuclear power plants provide clean reliable electricity to three million homes in North America. In Brazil, Norte Fluminense, a thermoelectric power plant, supplies 22% of the electricity consumed in Rio.

  • EDF Nuclear Activities in the United States
    • The environmental impact of nuclear energy is very low. It produces no air pollution, isolates its waste and requires relatively little land. State-of-the-art nuclear energy facilities generate jobs and income for local communities and provide low costs and stable prices for millions of homes and businesses.

In the United States, EDF owns 49.99% of three nuclear power plants operated by Exelon, the largest nuclear operator in the U.S. These nuclear power plants generate 33.1 TWh and provide clean and reliable electricity to 3 million homes. Exelon is in charge of operation, maintenance, safety and security of the three power plants.

  • EDF Norte Fluminense (EDF NF) Thermoelectric Power Plant – Brazil
    • The North Fluminense Thermoelectric Power Plant has been one of EDF’s main assets in Brazil over the past ten years, demonstrating both impressive industrial and financial performance. The plant enables EDF to conserve and capitalize on its network and visibility in the Brazilian market.

Located in the city of Macaé, in the interior of the State of Rio de Janeiro, EDF Norte Fluminense is responsible for about 22% of the electric energy consumed in the Rio metropolitan area.

      The Plant

As a thermal combined cycle plant, EDF NF, uses the natural gas produced in the Campos Basin and operates three generators driven by gas-burning turbines and a fourth unit driven by a steam turbine. In addition to improved economic performance, the production system is environmentally effective: the natural resource is passed as efficiently as possible, avoiding steps such as outgassing into the atmosphere at high temperatures (400°C). The plant also showcases the state of Rio de Janeiro’s first solar power plant – demonstrating EDF’s renewable energy capabilities, fulfilling the plant’s administrative electricity needs and creating a reduction of 250 tons of CO2 emissions per year.

      Our Vision

EDF Norte Fluminense’s business vision goes beyond the search for operational excellence and profitability. The environmental, social and economic questions of the communities directly or indirectly influenced by its operations are the core of its corporate strategy. The company has clear commitments to the promotion of sustainable development – evidenced by its program of socio-environmental responsibilities and the plant’s photovoltaic panel roof. In its everyday operations, EDF Norte Fluminense has adopted socially responsible practices that permeate every interaction with employees, collaborators, suppliers, public authorities, academic and cultural institutions and non-governmental organizations. • IBIRITERMO – Brazil
    • IBIRITERMO was founded in 2001 through a partnership between Edison S.p.A., a major Italian electricity and gas company, and PETROBRAS, a Brazilian integrated energy company. The partnership was created to develop, construct, operate, maintain and perform the exploration of a thermoelectric natural gas combined cycle plant in the municipality of Ibirité in Minas Gerais.
